Some decades ago, many countries have been interested in developing language engineering techniques to improve and facilitate communication between man and machine, especially after the widespread of personal computers and spread of access to the Internet to search for the abundant information in a very short time.

Since most of the information on the World Wide Web is written in English Language, many research teams in different countries raced to develop new techniques to deal with computers and search in data bases using their mother language. Of course, the main objective of this activity is to preserve the mother tongue and avoid the migration of these languages and resort to the use of the English language; the most popular language on the Internet.

As for the Arabic language, the matter requires concentrated efforts due to the specificity of this language and the difference in its construction and writing from other languages. It also needs to create awareness of the importance of language engineering and the need for Arab researchers to participate in developing its techniques to suit the Arabic language, as they are the most knowledgeable about its unique characteristics. From this point of view and this vision, the group of founders of the association set the objectives mentioned in the objectives item.
